Concurrent licensing for Exelis ENVI on MacOS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)

In a previous post we outlined how to install ENVI on your OS X Mountain Lion. Now we configure the machine to use our concurrent licenses.

Open a command prompt and go to to the /etc folder:

   cd /etc

Check if you already have a file launchd.conf:

   ls -al launchd.conf

If the file launchd.conf does not exist, create it:

   sudo touch launchd.conf

Open a text editor with root (Administrator) privileges:

   sudo -b "/Applications/Textedit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit"

Now open the file file /etc/launchd.conf in the text editor. The file is still empty.

At the University of Manchester add this line (for other organizations replace 27012@alecto… with your license server name):

   setenv IDL_LMGRD_LICENSE_FILE "27012@alecto.mcc.ac.uk;27012@megaera.mcc.ac.uk;27012@tisiphone.mcc.ac.uk"

Save and close the file /etc/launchd.conf.

Restart the computer.

At the University of Manchester: Connect to the VPN –  you always have to be on the VPN to use ENVI.

Launch ENVI.

For the technically minded, here is more on Environment Variables in OS X Mountain Lion.
